See Chernobyl As It Is Today
We have scoured the internet in search of the best images of Chernobyl and its surrounding area. It wasn’t until we found Elena Filatova’s website that we were able to find high-quality, high-resolution images that were suitable for display. Many of the images come from Elena’s website, and we encourage anyone who wants an “insider’s” opinion on Chernobyl to check out her written works. Though living in Kiev, Elena sent us “The Atomic Middle Ages” upon a donation to her website- it really is an eye opener, and we recommend that you order it (USD $30) and read it for yourself.
The image galleries are still under construction. Please come back around March 30, 2008.
- The Power Plant - Images of the power plant itself.
- Cities and Towns - 30 square kilometers of countryside were declared a dead zone. Hundreds of villages and cities are within those boundaries. This is what they look like today.
- Pripyat - Only a few kilometers from Chernobyl, Pripyat is perhaps one of the saddest results of the Chernobyl accident.
- Misc. - Images that do not fit the above categories.
Sites With Images About or Related to Chernobyl
Below are websites with images about Chernobyl. Though you might find similar images, it is truly an understatement to say that there are not enough pictures in the world that can truly capture what really occurred in Chernobyl. There is nowhere else in this world where you can time-warp to April, 1986 the moment you enter.
- Elena Filatova - Hundreds of original images taken by Elena. Many of these images appear on this website (with her permission of course).
- KiddOfSpeed.com - Another website about Elena’s photographs.
- CTV.ca’s Pictures - A small collection of original pictures.
- Spaceman.ca - Excellent photos of the Chernobyl power plant right after the accident.
- Ten Years After Chernobyl - It’s amazing how time changes things.
